Line chart: Dates in uneven intervalls on x-achsis

Hi,

I would like to produce a line chart like the one shown here:

http://bonds.yahoo.com/bonds_big.png

My data table will look like the one you find in the table 'U.S
Treasury Bonds' under http://bonds.yahoo.com/rates.html.

When I copy the table into excel and draw the line graph, excel doe
not consider the uneven intervalls between the dates given on th
x-achsis: 0.25, 0.5, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 30 years.

Instead, it draws the data points in constant intervalls to each other
This is not accurate enough for what I'm looking for.

I have tried to leave blank rows in between the given rows in order t
'equalize' the intervalls. Example: 1 blank row between year 3 and 5;
blank rows between year 5 and 10 etc.

Then, the problem is that the data points won't be graphically linke
to each other. I don't get one, connected line of data points.

Has anyone an idea how to end up with something like the Yahoo! graph
Any help is more than welcome!

Thank you very much in advance.

Have a nice weekend,
Gil

Sounds like you have made a Line chart when an XY is needed
MS really should have chosen a different name for Line chart!

You want an "XY (Scatter)" chart, not a "Line" chart.

A "Line" chart is misleadingly named. It has nothing to do with whether
you want to include a line or not. A "Line" chart treats the x-axis as
categories, not as numbers. That is why when you supply numeric labels
for the categories, they are plotted with equal spacing. Numeric labels
cause additional confusion with "Line" charts if you try to fit a trend
line, since the x-values for the categories will be taken to be
1,2,3,... regardless of the labels.
