Line in Word 98 I can't remove

Ed Kearns

When I try to do a short line in Word 98, e.g. ---------, I've discovered
that it creates a line going all the way across the page, which is tricky to
delete but do-able.
When I try to do it with underscores, e.g. _____, it creates a similar line
which I haven't been able to remove. Anybody know how this is created, and
how to remove it?

Ed,

This is the result of an AutoCorrect setting. Here's how to turn this off:

1. From the Tools menu select AutoCorrect
2. Click on the AutoFormat As You Type" tab
3. Under the heading Apply as you type, uncheck Borders, then click OK.

Now when you type --- or ___ they will not turn into a line going all the
way across the page.
