Line Numbering and Text Box

I have a long document in which I am using line numbering down the left
side, every five lines. I am also using text boxes (borders hidden) at the
left side of the page, between the numbering and text that wraps around the
box on the right. What I find is that the line number that should go left of
the text is printing right of the text in the text box, actually somewhat
under that text, so it is not even clearing the box itself.

Is there a way to force all the line numbers to stay at the far left, or at
least to clear the text boxes if the number has to go between the box and
the main text?
