Lines automatically renumber incorrectly

B

Barb

I have created a manual with various line numbering, using Styles, etc. When
I open the document, the lines are numbered correctly, however when my boss
opens the documents, he says the lines are number consecutively, instead of
'restart at a' at various points in the document.

What have I done wrong?

What software are you using? Word?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Yes... I'm running Word 2007 on XP Pro. He is running Word 2003.
I've been using Styles throughout the document, with an 'alpha numbering'
that I modified from (I thought) line numbering. Even when I assign this
Style to a short list, I have to tell it to 'restart at a'. I did read
several other people's website info... "TameAutoFormatContent.htm, and Create
numbered headings in MS Word", but neither of these explain how to fix it
once it's already been created.

ps... If/when you reply and I try to open the link to this website, from the
email, I get a blank page... any ideas there? I have to go in thru the
communities website and search for my original thread. I've already posted
this problem, but haven't received any suggestions.

Problem number 1, this group is for Visio, not Word. The confusion
arrises because in the community pages even though you select Word it
still shows you all the other Office groups.
Use the Google Groups interface, it may be bad and quite badly broken
in many ways but it's far less confusing than the communities website
interface.
P.S. The Communities and Google Groups are really web interfaces to
usenet newsgroups.
