Lines jumping

I'm sure this question has been answered before, but I can't find it:

What do I do to stop lines i want to put into a drawing jumping all over the place like they have a mind of their own? I have turned off grids and "snap to". I think I previously was told to hold down the shift when i drew the line, but that doesn't work. Why does something so simple have to be so hard? Thanks for your help.

I believe the problem is that MS removed the normal line. All you have now is a connector. The jumping is caused by the line trying to attach to one of the objects on the page. Depending upon what you are trying to do with the line, you may be able to simply avoid the objects on the page. Or you could create a blank page, draw an unfettered line, then cut and paste.

Unfortunately this is a bug in 2007 as well as 2008. It was difficult for MS
to nail down the cause, but I understand it has been identified & would
expect to see the fix in the next update.
