Lines not wanted

Can someone please tell me why double lines have started showing up in
my Word document?
They are towards the end of the document.

They just keep on multiplying and I can't figure out where they are
coming from or how to get rid of them. They can't be selected. If I
click on them I see a small double line with an arrow facing up and
down. The lines can be slid in one direction, sometimes two.

I hate these lines and want to get rid of them!!!!

Help me please.

They are probably the borders of a table. This often seems to happen if you,
for example, draw a line across the page using dashes and then hit Enter.
Word changes the line into a table border.

If you Undo at that point, you'll get your dashed line back, but if you
don't, then you will need to remove the table border by selecting the
paragraph markers above and below it, then Format/Borders & Shading/None.

Thank you very much for your reply!

That's exactly what I had done, inserted dashed lines across various
documents as a separator. I'll try your suggestion and hopefully they
will disappear.

Any suggestions what I should use as a quick separator that won't
create this problem?

Well, I still use this as a separator, but as I said, if, after hitting
Enter, you hit Undo, then it corrects this instance, which means it's not a
problem for me.

The other thing you could do is to copy and paste a separator from one place
to another.
