Link a single Vision object to a Word document?

Can I create a link in a Word document to a single object in a Visio
document?

I tried selecting the object in Visio and pressing Ctrl+C. Then
clicking on Edit / Paste Special / Paste Link in the Word document.

It appears to create the link, but it also appears to embed the whole
graphic. That is, if I update the object in Visio, it gets updated in
the Word document as well, but the Word document grows huge.
