link bar trouble: format changes when published to server

I selected a style of link bar with a solid background and
when I published my web, the index page style changed from
one style to another.

The source code viewed in the browser clearly showed a
difference in html coding from the other pages.

I checked my original page which looked like all the other
pages, viewed on my browser and found that the html coding
was different.

I replaced the code in a cut and paste manner with source
code from another page and republished the index page.

Now both the page that I copied and the index page have
been thwarted.

Any ideas what's going on here? The server I am
publishing to definitely has Frontpage extensions for the
version I need.
