Link Bars

I am running Frontpage 2002. I am a beginner when it comes to frontpage. I
am trying to create a webpage. I inserted a blank page and changed the
theme to Topo. I added link bars to match the pages theme. I added the
links to the link bars by clicking on the button that takes you to the
internet and allows you to go to the page you want to link to. The links
work fine but the pictures for the buttons do not display. I have an x
displaying where the pictures are supposed to. The location I saved my
index.htm file is not in the default location. i saved it to another
location on my computer. After that, I used some wsftp software to transfer
the index file and the gif files associated with it to a folder on my
computer at work. After I noticed all of this, I opened the file on my
computer at home and where the link bars are supposed to be it says [The
link bar feature is not available in this web]. I have no idea how to fix
this. Could some please help me. Please expalin it like you would to a
dummy because I am not that familiar with frontpage.

Thanks for any help
sc

ps I hope everything is clear in my explanation. Plese let me know if it
isn't.

Where to start? Ok, here goes.

Front Page uses concepts called a "disk based web"
and "server based web".

The disk based web is contained in a special folder on
your PC. When you want to work on your website, you File
| Open that web as a first step. All web pages, pictures
and any other files that make up your web MUST RESIDE IN
that folder even if they exist on other portions of your
hard drive. All hyperlinks within your web to other pages
and pictures must be to files within the disk based web
(or to links to web pages on the WWW).

Another advantage of the disk based web metaphor is that
any changes you make within this web are automatically
propagated throughout the disk based web. For instance,
supoose you change the filename of one of your pages or
pictures, Front Page will redo any hyperlinks involved.

Once you are ready to put your web on the internet,
you "publish" your disk based web to your server based
web. The server based web is the one that resides on the
host server. To publish, you must either use Front
Page's "http" method or FTP your site to your host. The
http approach requires that your host supports the Front
Page Extensions and has them enabled on your account. The
Front Page Extensions are also required if you wish to
use certain Front Page features, e.g. Forms. If you use
Front Page Extensions and attempt to FTP to your site,
the Front Page Extensions will usually be trashed. Thus
you should plan ahead on your publishing decision.

I hope this helps you and I would strongly suggest you
visit your favorite bookstore and pick up a copy
of "Microsoft Front Page 2002 Inside Out" by Jim Buyens.
