link & import ODBC files in Access 97

I have to import & to link an ODBC file in an Access 97
table.
The import and the link go without any problem, but ...
The format of some fields in the ODBC file are "number",
but when I make the import / link in Access, the format
is changed to "Text".
What do I have to do to keep the format of the cells?
