Link tasks across multiple projects in Project Server

Sometimes we have tasks in one project that are predecessors of tasks in
other projects. Before project server, we opened both projects and created
the links between the tasks. Is this still possible now that we are using
PS and what are the things to watch for if it is possible.

Thanks,

Walter

Yes it is possible the same way you used to do it. But you might have to let
The EPM Administrator do the linking, if you are linking your project to
another pm's project.

The help file within Project Pro has an excellent explanation of how to do
this.

Dale,

This works great! Thanks for the information. I have one more question
about how these linkages update though. If I update progress on a task in
Project A, resulting in a slip of that task, and it is a predecessor of a
task in Project B, when does Project B's task get updated? Since PS 2003
doesn't have server-side scheduling, I'm assuming Project B has to be opened
before the impact of Project A's tasks is see in B. Or maybe, even worse,
I have to remember to open both A and B to get the full impact.

Thanks as always for your excellent help!

Your question is a good one. Project B gets updated when the PM opens it
the next time, but he/she will get a warning that changes in another project
have caused changes in the schedule of Project B. You are more than welcome
for the help, my friend! :)
