Link to a doc should open in word and not internet explorer

How can I force an HTML link to open a document within Microsoft Word and not
in Internet Explorer from a web page? I have a lot of vba coding in the
document and it's working in Word but getting errors when it opens within
Internet Explorer. Please advise!! :)
