Link to access database outside of Sharepoint

\\server\folder\file.mdb If i post that as a link and click on it, it will
not open ms access, it hangs, although if i put a url similarly to a word
document it will open word and the document.

If i click on link to ms access, it opens a database without a problem -
how can we re-code that to go to a specific existing database and open it to
a form.

please check your sharepoint administraton setting: Security
configuration->manage bloocked file types to ensure if you allow to transmit
mdb files.
