Link to Excel - Hotfix?

I am having trouble getting the file list type dropdown to list .xls files
when I go to link to Excel. I have tried every hotfix I could find, but
nothing seems to work. Has anyone out there experienced the same thing and
fixed it?

It just lists it as Excel, not as xls

Can't even get that... I have installed all the hotfixes I can find and it
still does not show an Excel option. Any other ideas?
