Link to excel numeric data

I have read the post about the excel import problem.

I want Access to read the excel data as text. There is an option that
appears during the import wizard session. But it is dimmed. Why does not the
Access wizard allow a forced data type import import.

Because the current and past versions of ACCESS are not programmed to allow
that option....
