Link to file grayed out

I just upgraded to Office 2007 and I am trying to link a file into a task in
Outlook. When I try to Insert Object | Create from file the Link to file
checkbox is always grayed out so that I can not check it. I've looked
through multiple posts and no one else seems to have this problem. Can
someone help?

Thanks.

It's grayed out here, too.

Would a hyperlink serve the same purpose for you? Those work. Press Ctrl+K
(or click the Hyperlink tool in the Insert ribbon tab).

It would work, but why am I not allowed to embed objects anymore with Office
2007? Is there a solution to this particular problem?

Thanks,

Insert - Object isn't available in Outlook 2003 at all. You could only do it
in earlier versions of Office by using Word as the email editor.

If you start the email from Word 2007, you can still embed objects, and link
to file is available. You would need to put the Send to Mail Recipient tool
onto the Quick Access Toolbar. But, once you do that, you should have the
same capability you had in Office 2003.
