Link To Image - Minimized Window

R

Richard in VA

I know this information is out there somewhere, and all over the place...
but can't seem to lay my hands on it.

How do I link to an image that opens in a new window, and have the window
display as bare-bones. Meaning that the window size is minimum to fit close
around the image and have NON of the extra window features, such as scroll
bars and toolbars and menus and such.

Just the title bar with the "x" to close window and the image... nothing
else.

Thanks for any help!

If your users use IE7 or later, this can't be done. IE7 and later (and
possibly IE6) will always display the address bar in all windows except in
Kiosk mode - but kiosk mode does not include the title bar either.

For FrontPage see http://www.jimcosoftware.com/addins.aspx and look for
Spawn. This FrontPage addin will generate the code required.

Thanks Ronx,

Just a small problem, which puts my question a little bit off-topic.

I'm helping a friend who has a site with GoDaddy and set up using their
"website tonight" WYSIWYG application.

In addition to WYSIWYG, it also allows you to edit the html code. So I add a
line of text and create the hyperlink via the application, then switch to
html edit view to add custom code. This is where I want to add code to have
the image open in the reduced window.

So... I'm actually looking for html code to accomplish this. If I'm asking
a question that is considered as O.T. or out-of-group or something, feel
free to ignore my question.

I wish there was a html newsgroup on this server... don't know where else to
go for O.T. questions.

Thanks!

VERY GOOD Stefan, this is what I was looking for... Thanks!

Don't suppose there is a way to have the pop-up window "auto fit" to the
image size, my images do vary somewhat. Also, could it be set to pop-up in
the middle of the screen, as opposed to pixel count from top/left corner.

But this is good... very good... thanks!!

Thank you Steve,

That looks pretty interesting too... Thanks!

However, using GoDaddy's "Website Tonight" WYSIWYG site builder with
templates, I can only manually edit basic html code for the page. So I
can't use scripting or access the <head> section. Only the <body> section
of the page, or at least I haven't figured out how to yet.

I've played around with Stefan's suggestion at...
http://www.echoecho.com/toolpopupgenerator.htm. Looks like this might work
fine, I'll only have 12-20 images and I can edit the code to size the pop-up
window for each file, and fudge with the offset from top-left corner for
looks and feel.

Thanks Steve!

Richard,

Well, I may be letting myself in for a bit of work in finding the code that
works for you, but I have combined spawnJimcoPopup with Steve's idea of
changing the window size and I have implemented JS code that opens a window
just where you want it and the exact size of the image (plus a bit for other
buttons, etc.)

If you go to http://tandcl.homemail.com.au/ and click on either picture at
the top left or right, a window opens aligned to the top of the page and
centred horizontally. There is also a caption at the top and print and close
buttons beneath the image. The code for the print is a bit complex, hence my
comment about finding the code that works

If you go to this page http://tandcl.homemail.com.au/album.html by clicking
on "Picture Album" and click on "Personal Photo Gallery", then click on any
image, a slightly different method is used to display the larger image. This
in fact overlays the page with a <div> so refreshing the page (F5) restores
"Personal Photo Gallery"

I can't see why you would not be able to add JavaScript into the head, but
then I don't use GoDaddy's website builder. I write the html and JS in an
editor (most often UltraEdit) then use FP publish to upload to the site

If you want the code, let me know
