Link two tasks

Avi

I know It's a lame question, but anyway...
Just installed Project Server 2003 on my organization.
smiling like a 6 years old child, went up and created a test project, added
two tasks
and.... can't seem to know how to link them so that one will follow at the
end of the other. what am I doing wrong? in Project 2000 you had to click on
both and press the link icon. so simple.
Thanks in advance guys,
Avi

Avi,

If you have task2 that follows task1, simply double click task2 to display
the task information window. In the 'Predecessors' register set the
predecessor for to task1. There you can also determine the type of the
relationship (with finish-to-start being the most common) and lag between the
two tasks.

Alternative method: drag and drop the bar of task1 in the Gantt View to
task2. This will create the same relationship between the two tasks,
finish-to-start).

Hope this helps...

Marc

Avi --

I suspect you are not seeing the Link Tasks button on your Standard toolbar,
which is why you asked this question in the first place. If you do not see
two toolbars at the top of your Microsoft Project application window, then
do the following:

1. Click Tools - Customize - Toolbars
2. Click the Options tab
3. Select the first two checkboxes at the top of the dialog (to display
toolbars on two rows and to show full menus)
4. Click the Close button

Now, select the two tasks in question and then click the Link Tasks button.
To change the dependency type from Finish to Start to any of the other three
types, simply double-click the link line between the two tasks in the Gantt
Chart. Hope this helps.

Guys thank so much for your reply.
Unfortunately, It didn't work for me.
The linked tasks that I'm trying to make are in PWA. I DO NOT have ms
project installed in my workstation. my intention is that users who don't
have ms project, will use PWA to create and share Gantt charts. Am I wrong?
Is PWA's functionality limited? Must every user who wants to create Gantt
charts have Ms Project installed at his workstation?

Avi,

PWA is for read access to project data only. If you want to manipulate data
you need Project Professional.

Hope this helps...

Marc thanks, you've been more than helpful.
One last question:
Will Ms Project server 2007 include a R/W PWD that'll allow creating and
manipulating Projects?

Thanks a mil,
Avi
