Weird problem. One user group reported a problem
regarding an Access 97 front-end database they have been
using. Amazingly, they have been accessing this same
front-end database using three different versions of
Access (97, 2000 and 2002) for the past year. This
database is stored on a server and it pulls its data from
a linked DBF stored on the same server. They all have
shortcuts on their desktop pointing to the same
database. They all have the same permissions set up on
the server.
Anyone who opens the linked DBF table using Access 97 or
Access 2002 gets the correct results. As an example,
this table has a field called "Type" and all records
have an associated Type code (number) which is displayed
correctly in 97 and 2002. But, the problem is if a user
opens the table with Access 2000, for some of the
records, the Type field comes up as being blank.
I thought maybe the problem was a result of them opening
an Access 97 database with 2000, so I converted the front-
end to Access 2000 for the 2000 users, but they're still
getting intermittent results in displaying the data. I
also tried repairing and compacting without success.
Is there something quirky with Access 2000 and linking it
to DBF table?
I suppose ultimately, we'll have to upgrade them all to
Access 2002, (since that version seems to work without
problems), but I was just curious if anyone knew why the
data in the DBF table won't display correctly with 2000.
TIA
