Linked Sharepoint Services 3.0 Calendar suddenly Read Only

CurtisK

We find our users suddenly with a Read Only linked Sharepoint Calander in
Outllok 2007, Exchange 2007, Sharepoint Services 3.0 and Windows SBS Server
2008 environment. This calendar spent a few weeks functioning well as a read
/ write calendar.

Looking through KB I find articles KB959642 and KB961752 offering hotfixes
for the problem. When we on to install them for our most technically savvy
users one gets the message "The Detection Failed, this can be due to a
corrupted installation database" and the other "The expected version of the
product was not found on the system."

Would the correct action in the 1st case be to run the "Windows Install
Cleanup" utility to clear the Outlook install record? If so what would be
the next steps? If not how should this be resolved (We would be happy to
manually copy the files.)

In the 2nd case, which is a machine with very similar setup and the same
product versions, what would be the best course of corrective action?

No it is not.

Weirdly MSUpdate isn't telling me it is available.

I downloaded it and I am in the same spot as the 2 KB files:
"The Detection Failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database"

Same Question: Would the correct action in the 1st case be to run the
"Windows Install Cleanup" utility to clear the Outlook install record?
If so what would be the next steps?
If not how should this be resolved?

My other user with the "The expected version of the product was not found on
the system" message does have SP2 installed.

the second hotfix (KB961752) is included with sp2 so you don't need it, or
should have it already. I don't know if cleaning the installation with make
a difference.

Yet on machines where that is installed we still have the issue....any
thoughts as to why all Outlook 2007 linked sharepoint list would suddenly
become read-only and the "link to outlook" action dissappear from the menu?

"Link to outlook" is missing on the sps server? That could be permissions
problems on the calendar library. It's something on the server side and
could be causing the read-only problem in outlook.
