linked table forgets to lookup fields

Axel

I like to define lookup-fields in my Access tables.
Instead of entering a code, I can use a drop down list box
to select a value.

This feature also works with tables linked from an ODBC
database. Access tells me then, that it is a linked table
and I can't edit most of it. Still it is possible to
define lookup fields and they are even working perfectly.
The next time I open the database, all the lookup-fields
are gone. However the definition is still there, when I
open the table in edit mode and click on the lookup tab.

I have tried everything, but it's always gone after
closing the database. Is there a solution to this, or at
least an explanation?

Hi Axel,

Lookup fields cause various problems and confusion, though the
particular one you describe is new to me. On the whole it's best not to
use them in serious database work: instead, use forms to display and
edit your data, and implement the lookups by using comboboxes (or
listboxes).
