linked tables allows insert not edit

why would a linked table (linked to sql) allow me to add new records
but not edit or delete them once i move off the record and back in or
close and re-open the table?
i can edit all records in this table except new records.
this is occuring only for one table. all other tables allow inserts,
edits and deletes.

please read carefully before answering. this is occuring with an open
table not in a form. there are no permissions assigned or denied that
are any different for this table.

need some clues quick!

the problem was solved by making the default value for bit field 0 or (0).
apparently null bit fields are a no-no in Access.
