I have a couple of questions that hopefully somone can answer:
1) After reading several of the discussion threads I have come to the
conclusion that the back end (data) of my Access 2007 application must be
converted to SQLServer for security reasons. In researching the conversion I
have not been able to find out if there is another way to connect to the
linked database other than ODBC? I did a test conversion of the back end to
SQLServer and when it was finished I had table_local and the same table as a
linked table that seemed to be linked through an ODBC connection (which I
still haven't found).
2) When I click on the Linked Table manager the wizard wants to have me
connect to another Access DB (*.mdb or *.accdb) but I want to connect to a
SQLServer database. Is there another menu option that I haven't found to do
this?
3) Some of my users are remote through a VPN which only allows them access
to a single IP address on the system. If the only way to connect to the SQL
backend of the application is through an ODBC connection (Question 1) will
this work? Will the ODBC conncection at the remote location be able to
access the SQLServer on the machine that is accessed over the VPN?
I hope the answer to these questions is not staring me in the face but a
search of the help files did not "help".
Thanks for any assistance!
