Linked tables slowing down performance

I set up a database which uses 60 linked tables to other servers. When I
opened tables in the database, even those not linked, the time to open them
dramatically increased. In addition other processes, even those not using
the linked tables increased as well as the time to compact the database. Is
there any way to improve this situation ? Is there a recommeded limit to the
number of linked tables to use in a database ?

The problem is not with the number of tables.

First culprits to investigate would be Name AutoCorrect and
