Linking a custom project field to custom outline code

Is there a way to set up a formula in an outline code that equals a text
field?

It is not possible to create formulas in outline code fields. Sorry.

Additional thought: Instead of using a Text field, why don't you replace
the Text field with an Outline Code field instead, which can then be shared
by another Outline Code field?

Thanks. This is probably what I will have to do. I already had a developer
set up a script that imported data from another databasse into an enterprise
text field though & was trying to avoid having him do any more development
work. As luck would have it, the data I am importing into the text field is
the data I'd like to filter on. I guess I'll have to have him re-map to an
outline code instead.
