linking a .wma file into a PP2003 presentation

I am officially at wits end. After reading answers as to how to to this and
save to a CD, I still cannot get the music to play on another computer. I
have copied the music file (.wma)into a folder, I then saved the presentation
(without music) to the folder as well. I open that presentation and link the
music from that folder into the presentation. I then save the presentation
and then Package it for CD. I take the CD and try to play it on another
computer. The presentation runs but no music. There are sound cards and the
volume is up! I don't get it.

When you package for CD click 'options' - are you including linked files?
Have you tried copying the folder with the presentation & the wma in it to a
usb stick and playing from another computer? Will the wma play on the other
computer on its own?

What is the source of the WMV file? If its ripped from a CD with Windows
Media Player (and others) it may well have Digital Rights Management (DRM)
preventing it from playing on other PCs. The other possibility, there are
several versions of WMA files using different codec versions and they are
not all compatible with PowerPoint (MCI Player) without installing the
needed codecs.

You can google for a utility called "GSpot". With it you can open the WMV
file and it will list the codec(s) being used. Drop back here with that
info and I'll see if I can help.
