Linking an image in Word 2004 for Mac

R

Ryden

Hello, I am in the search of a function of Word Xp PC on Word 2004 Mac:
the connection of images. I wish to integrate in a Word file an image
available on Internet. I do not want the image to be "copied" in the Word
file, but just linked to this image. The goal is to be able thereafter to
export as a Web page and to find itself with a beacon of image with the
true Web address of the image and not a local copy. (< IMG SRC="http://...
)
On PC, I do "insertion/image/from a file", there I type directly the web
address of the image and instead of clicking "insert", I click on the drop-
down menu of the button and I "bind". On Mac, on the one hand I do not see
how to give it the Web address, and on the other hand I do not see how to
tell it to only establish alink.

Thank you for any help!

Hi

I have looked at this on Word 2003 and can't find a "Bind" option in the
drop down list although unlike Word 2004 it allows you to enter the URL
directly in the requester.

Nevertheless, instead of using the "Insert/Picture/From file...", try the
"Insert/Field..." menu item and choose from the "Links and references" list
the "IncludePicture" field. Type in the URL to the image file as the
"Filename". This creates a link to the image file.

Let us know how it works for you.

Hi,

thanks, it was the right thing to do! The insert/field seems to allow do
allow anything with any option possible, so with the /d option, it only
establishes a link to the picture, without copying it in the document.

Thanks again.

Cyril.

Hi Jeffrey:

Since you're back from holidays, would you please kick the Help people
firmly until they produce a topic that explains HOW to insert a link to a
picture on a webserver.

I just answered another poster in French who wanted to know the same thing:
how do you link to a picture that is on a different server to the one the
web page is being saved to (or in a different location on the same server).

The Word 2004 Help talks all around the issue: it tells you how to insert
pictures in a document, how to insert pictures "from file", how to tell when
your links are not working. The one thing it DOESN'T tell you is how to
insert a picture in a web page!

Just exactly where do you put the IMG link? :)

Cheers

Thanks for posting to the Word Newsgroup. This is great info!

Hi Jeff-

Perhaps I'm unclear on the intended result, but it seems to me that one
option omitted from this thread is Insert>Hyperlink. It isn't
implemented as easily as the same command in the Win versions of Word,
but the original post indicates more than enough savvy to handle it.

If this wouldn't do the job, I'd appreciate a brief explaination at
your convenience.

Thanks

No, you're right, that's the one he wants.

My point is that it is very difficult to use in Mac Word if the destination
file is not "visible" on the network, and the Help does not explain how to
do it.

Yes, I think this is a result of the Mac OS X, not allowing one to insert an
http:// link in an Open Dialog, so MacWord had to design the Insert |
Hyperlink... a little different from WinWord.

However, I have passed that on to the Help people to include this
alternative route.
