Linking caption sequence numbers

How do you link a caption sequence number to a word in a
sentance. For example, I have a picture with a caption
and in the paragraph describing the picture I want to
say "see Figure 12". If I have to change/update the
caption number under the picture I want the "see Figure
12" to change also, so that the numbers match.

Place a bookmark on said caption and refer to the para number of the
bookmark.

Have you tried using Insert/Cross-Reference?
