Linking DAP to MDB using IP

I have created several web Data Access Pages using MS Access XP, that when tested internally using the internal IP address, everything works correctly

When I try to link using the external IP address I get an error
"Microsoft Office Web Components could not open the database \\###.##.#.#\Inetpub\wwwroot\ClientAccess\CarsWeb.mdb

I'm pretty sure it's because the ### is the internal IP address, but what I don't know is how to link the page to the mdb using a path that an external user can understand

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED
