linking excel files to access

made 2 excel files in excell 2000. on my machine at home, when i open the excel files in access, everything goes smooth
at office, when i try to open excel files in access (2000 also- same version on home machine), access tells me that the database (whatever the name is).xls is not a valid file
how can i open these files (btw, they open in qwuickview- so i know that they're there) they also open in microsoft word 2000.
