Linking Excel workbooks

S

Stefan

Problem:
Workbook1 contains data. The name of the workbook will
change, for example an updated version will have new
verion number.
Workbook2 reads in data from workbook1, i.e. there are
links to Workbook1.
I would like the ability to type into a cell in Workbook2
the new filename and this should automatically update the
filame in the links.
I tried the Indirect function, but this seems to work
only with worksheets in the same file.
Can anyone help?

INDIRECT will work with external references to other *OPEN* workbooks. It's only
closed workbooks it doesn't support. There are work-arounds. See
