linking fields from 2 tables that contain invalid characters

I am having no luck linking 2 tables together that
contain data like "A1120758808#@<EW Sal" (minus the
quotes) the data is a 1 to 1 relation ship but I am
trying to link for example 8 records from a query to the
corresponding records in another table.
