Linking fields from a report to a chart

I am trying to link a child field and master field from a report to a chart,
however, I keep getting the message "Cannot build a link between unbound
forms". What does this mean?

Access doesn't think your report doesn't have a Record Source or your chart
doesn't have a Row Source. You don't need to use the builder to enter field
names. Just type the appropriate values into the properties.
