linking fields

i forget how to link fields in a document. more
specifically, i want to create a first field taht will
automatically fill in other fields that require the same
information (for instance "family name")to eliminate the
need to retype the same information in a document.

Assuming this is a form field, insert a cross-reference to the bookmark of
that field (see the Form Field Options for the bookmark name, which you can
modify if you like). Be sure to check the "Calculate on exit" box in Form
Field Options so that the cross-reference will update automatically.
