Linking files to public contacts folder in MSexchange 2000/outlook

Can anyone help me to link files from any permitted user into a public
contacts 2002 outlook file. We want to create a customer address &
information data base using a public contacts folder under outlook 2002
running with MS exchange 2000.

Into each customer record we want to link a number of different files
(mainly word & excel files).

Just how (if at all) can we do this? I have tried linking a file as a
journal entry but a message appears when I open the activities tab to go into
propoerties & tell the contacts folder which folders it should ber looking
at. But I do not seem to be able to do this. Any ideas if this is at all
possible with the above setup?
