Linking hours into Excel, without the 'h'

T

Tim

Hi

I link data from my project plan into excel to do some
resource demand forcasting, or rather I'd like to, but
when I copy the hours against a task into my Excel sheet,
it includes the 'h' against the number to signify hours.

I need to get rid of this, as it wont allow the formulae
to carry out any number crunching on that cell with a
letter in it.

Any ideas? Do I need to put a custom field into project
that just shows the number of hours without the 'h'? If
so - how?!?!

TIA
Tim

Can you elaborate - dont quite understand what you mean.

I've added a column, (field name Number1, assume thats
what you meant) and typed in the formula that you
suggested.
Result - error - Invalid number -out of range or invalid
for a number field.

Can you be clearer on what you mean please, the effort is
appreciated.

I need the hours value in Excel, just without the
trailing 'h' - seems like a formatting issue to me.

thanks
Tim

In Excel,

1. select the entire hours column
2. press Ctrl+H
3. In the 'find what' box put the letter H
4. Leave the Replace with' box empty
5. Click on the Replace All button.

In Excel,

1. select the entire hours column
2. press Ctrl+H
3. In the 'find what' box put the letter H
4. Leave the Replace with' box empty
5. Click on the Replace All button.

Result - #REF error.

The value in the cell in the XLS is a linked value form
my project plan. Any formulae in Excel that reference
this cell (with the linked info it it) returns an error
(#VALUE), becuase it sees the 'h' that project uses to
indicate hours and cannot treat it as a number.

Question still stands - how can I get shot of the 'h'
without breaking my links.

thanks

Hello Tim,

You do this as Jan told you : insert a Number(x) field, for ex Number
Tools / Customize Fields / Number 1 : formula :
[Duration]/60

NB : Project express durations in minutes, sor the /60.

Then use this field to create the link toward Excel

Ah, now I understand ... you've set up dynamic linking. Follow the advice
given by Gerard.

Result - #REF error.
