Linking M.S.Project data to Excel

When you copy the field(s) from project, paste them into
excel as Edit, Paste Special, Link, text. Make sure that
the formatting of the excel cell matches the data you're
linking.

the data, but cannot link from Project to Excel. The link
button is blanked out. I have no problem linking FROM
Excel to MS Project, but now I want to do the reverse.
