Linking parargraph numbers to references

C

Chris Newman

If someone could help me with this it would save my life:

I produce very long word documents comprised of numbered paragraphs. Text in one paragraph very often refers to a different pararaph (e.g. 'see discussion in para X').

This is all well and good until I add a new paragraph somewhere and consequently all my references become incorrect. Is there any way of linking the reference to number of a given paragraph so that it would all update automatically?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Chris

If you've created your cross-references using Insert | Cross-reference
(Insert | Reference | Cross-reference in Word 2002), they should update at
least when you print, but it's very easy to get a new paragraph inside the
bookmark for the cross-reference, so be very careful always to create new
paragraphs by pressing Enter at the *end* of the paragraph before where you
want the new paragraph rather than at the beginning of the following
paragraph.
