Linking projects w/o opening all of them

I would like to take one task (manufacturing) from 10 PM full scope projects
and link them to one project that that manufacturing can use that allows them
to get updated scheduling info. I have tried the suggestions on this site.
It appears that when I open the manufacturing schedule it needs the other 10
PM projects open to reestablish the link, otherwise it won't update the
scheduling date changes. Is there a way to do this?

Todd,

When you create external link. It does open other timelines on background.
But you don't have to manually open all the timelines. So, When you open
your manufacturing timeline and if there is any change in subtimeline you
will be prompted with a dialog box to accept changes. But you don't have to
open other timelines.
