Linking resource pools to templates (Project 2007 Pro - NOT Server

I'd like to link a resource pool to a template, so that when a new project is
created using the template the resources are available (and controlled via
the pool). I can link .mpp files to a resource pool, but can't seem to do the
same to .mpt files. When the template is opened, the resource pool is not
linked.

Does Project 2007 allow this? If so, any hints?

I don't recommend you do this. Every file linked to a resource pool needs to
keep its original name and never be moved, over-written or renamed. The risk
is that if you do any of these, sooner or later one or more files will
corrupt. It's not an if, rather a when.

When you open a template you get a copy of it. This copy is not linked to
the pool as the pool can know nothing about it and can only be linked
manually once the file has been saved.

Rod, thanks very much for that clarification. In that case I plan to create a
simple macro that links to the resource pool and put a button in the icon bar
to run the macro. It will be a simple click then to add the resource pool to
a new file. (Unless you have a better suggestion...?!)

I actually favor having no pool to avoid the inevitable corruptions. I
create (using a macro) a new consolidated flag each week (Insert, Project
but with Link option off). This copies all tasks etc and consolidates
resource data and provides a snapshot of all projects for posterity.

If a live Resource Pool is required for resource management purposes I run a
macro to create a new pool with all projects in a nominated master folder
included. Once the pool is finished with it decomposes and returns all files
to using their own resources.

You wouldn't have any hints on how to do this (since I'm not a programmer) in
that book of yours, would you?
