Linking Space Plan to Database

I am trying to link space shapes from a building space
plan to a database. I want to link 'Space Use', Name,
Department, and 'Calculated Area' to an Access 2000
database. When I attempt this Visio adds new fields named
just like the ones that already exist. I don't know what I
am doing wrong. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thank
