Is there a CSS file in your Web site?

No problem, Bill. The Style Sheet Links dialog is designed to link one or
more pages to an existing CSS file that is in the current Web site.
Therefore, you want to start out by creating a new CSS file either from
scratch or from one of FrontPage's templates. After you have added your
styles using FrontPage's Style dialog, save the file as a .css file
(FrontPage will select that file type by default) and you can then link it
to your pages.

Jim, thanks very much for helping but I'm still confused. Let's say I want
to use the "Arcs" Style Sheet. Should I first, double-click on it to open,
then Save or Save As or what? Where should I save it? Is it saved in the
particular Web to which I want the Arcs style applied? When I have saved it
correctly, how will I be able to tell?

I didn't understand the part of your answer where you said, "After you have
added your styles using FrontPage's Style dialog, save the file as a .css
file (FrontPage will select that file type by default) and you can then link
it to your pages". It may not seem like it, but I really am trying to
understand!

Bill,

The style sheet templates are just like any other page template. If you want
to use them, you select them to create a new file based on that template and
then save that file as any name that you choose. All files in FrontPage are
saved into the current Web site.

After you add a new CSS file using the Page Templates dialog, FrontPage will
automatically display the Style toolbar. The Style toolbar has a Style
button on it that you use to define new styles.

When you have saved the style sheet correctly, you will have a .css file in
your Web site that will be visible in Folders view. I think the best thing
for you to do is try it out! You'll quickly see what I mean.

You may also want to pick up a copy of my book which will release very soon
after FrontPage 2003. I have a great chapter in there on designing CSS
files with FrontPage, and the information in there will really help you to
understand not only how FrontPage deals with CSS, but also how CSS works in
general.

It will be out very shortly after FrontPage 2003 which is probably in the
next couple of months. You can preorder the book now from Amazon by
following the link on my home page.

Please tell me how. I'm trying to determine if I'm having a problem with FP
2002 right now. When I go to Format | Style Sheet Links | Add | Select File,
the dialogue box is blank. I do see down below, to the right of Files of
type, CSS files. In the Look In box though, FP is not taking me to any
Style Sheets in Page Templates. This could be an XP Pro problem, I'm not
sure. Can one of the pros offer some advice? Thank you.

Uh, oh. Stupid as it may sound, no there is not. If I should start with a
CSS file or Style Sheet from Page Templates please give me order I should do
it in. For example, should I start with a Style Sheet and the apply it to
the Web or page I'm designing? Sorry to sound so dumb...all I can plead is
ignorance.
