linking tasks to master schedule in MS project 98

S

Stan

Using MS Project 98: when linking key tasks (approximately
18)from various project plans to create a master schedule,
the links to all sources disappear upon saving.

They cannot be re-esteblished

Are there workarounds?

When you created the master schedule, did you do it by Inserting the
Projects via the insert menu? And did you check on the "link to
project" button?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I inserted tasks from sub projects using copy task ->
paste special -> paste link

Every single links works until I save, then all links get
lost. Re-establishing the links fails, even when I point
the original files out

Sorry, but maybe I'm old fashioned remembering how Object Linking and
Embedding didn't work in the old days. I'm not convinced it works even
now. I don't use it and can never make it work. I don't think this a
very reliable way of linking projects.

I'd suggest you use the "Insert/Project" to bring in the entire project
as a link, then use filters or hide parts of the hierarchy to display
the limited info.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
