Linking to a Locked File

Justin

I have build a databse in Access 2007 that links to an Excel 2007 file. When
I lock the Excel file so that it cannot be opened without a password, Access
is unable to link to the data.

Is there a way to lock the Excel file completely and still be able to have
the link be active?

only way I can think of is to open a connection to the Excel file and
provide a username and password in the connection string so that
Access can read the data/use the link.
