linking to a OneNote file from Internet Explorer

I have placed a link to a OneNote file in a web page. It doesn't appear as
if Internet Explorer can open this file. Is there a special way to code
links? I know that OneNote 2003 users cannot open OneNote 2007 files. I
have OneNote 2007 installed. I can right-click, save the file and then open
it from my hard drive but it won't open in Internet Explorer. Is this the
correct behavior?

On further research it appears that OneNote 2007 files will not open in
Internet Explorer 6 (even though OneNote 2007 is installed on the machine).

How are you creating the hyperlink? How is it referenced in the HTML? Is
the link a FILE: link or a ONENOTE: link?

I just did a quick test, and after right-clicking and then selecting "COpy
Hyperlink to this {blah}", I was able to paste the link into a Word
document, an Outlook email message and into a raw HTML file (with the
normal <A HREF=> tags) and in all cases, it appeared as a ONENOTE: link,
and clicking on the hyperlink opened up the original "blah" in OneNote.
