linking to DBF file

Hi,

I have an approach database to convert to Access
The data is in dbf files with indexes in ADX format
(I guess)

I have tried linking in Access 97,2k and XP
with DBase 3,4, an d 5 but it tells me that
it is "not in expected format"

I donb't know where to begin to go next
