linking to powerpoint slideshow

Ben

Having repeatedly failed to create a succesful link on my
homepage to a powerpoint slideshow i decided to try and
isolate the problem. I deleted everything off my host
site at tripod .com and published the ppt file onto my
hard disk having renamed it index.htm (I did not use the
single page option)
I then uploaded these files onto tripod.com and I could
see that they had all transferred correctly.
Remember the Pub files are not there yet because I don't
have any problem with those. The host site only has
Powerpoint files at this stage.
Now when I type in my web address from my browser i get
an error message from tripod that the file cannot be
found.
The odd thing is that when i follow the same procedure
with the Publisher files I do not get this message from
tripod.com.
What could be going wrong?
Thank you

Sorry David. Didn't want to continue with the previous
thread cos it already had 4 issues on it. will maintain
same thread in future.
I was just coming to post an update when i noticed your
reply.
I have now managed to upload the powerpoint file, however
what I see is a black screen with Tripod.com ads in small
print. The URL is http://isyta0.tripod.com
I attempted it twice. In the first attempt I included the
slide list at the side of the presentation and it was
indeed visible but when I clicked on any item It just
didnt load the page even after a minute had elapsed. On
the second attempt i chose not to include the list in
case that was slowing it down. But the result was just a
black screen with some tripod ads in small print.
The content is a large graph that fills the screen with
some accompanying text.there are no pictures
I'd be happy to email you the ppt file.

Thanks.

This thread is not a Publisher topic it is a PowerPoint topic but I'm going
ahead and taking a look at it.

You sent me your presentation and I saved it as a web to my pc. I named the
web version testshow.htm, I can open this home page of the show and it runs
just fine. I do note that the home page 'testshow.htm' actually redirects to
a framed page called testshow_frame.htm.
I'm not familair with turning a slide show into an online show but it is
apparent that PP creates framed pages to reproduce it online.

I then repeated the above this time saving it to your site-
http://isyta0.tripod.com/testshow.htm
The result being that the left frame is correct however the right frame is
not.

I then repeated the steps this time saving it to my site -
http://www.davidbartosik.com/2003samples/testshow.htm
The result being that the output is correct and fully functional.

End result - this is not a PowerPoint issue. It's a tripod issue.
Specifically thier use of frames to support the advertising. They are
generating a framed page to wrap your page with ads. All that framing screws
everything up.

I consider this thread closed. You could pursue it in a PP forum to see if
anyone has experience in publishing shows to ad supported hosts. You could
pursue it with tripod in regards to non-frame options being avialable.
