I would like to insert information in the opening name and
address field and have some of the same (duplicate)
information appear somewhere else in the same document. I
need:
1. addressee's last name to appear in another location
2. location iformation to appear in a different paragraph
3. different information to appear in another seperate
paragraph.

This would reduce the insertion time on a template by 50%.

Thanks for any suggestions on this issue.

Martin,

If you create a bookmark for this text you can then insert
a cross-reference for the bookmark where you what that
text to appear. For bookmarks, highlight the character(s)
for which you want to bookmark and use Insert Bookmark.
Provide a title with no spaces.

Use insert Cross Reference and select bookmark to locate
that name.

Bookmarks will do it, as suggested. The downside is that it's not hard to
make a mess of your bookmarks: if you select the bookmark and paste the
clipboard (very common if you're copying names and addresses), your inserted
text replaces the bookmark (ie deletes it) so your references will no longer
work; or select the start of the bookmarked text, insert some text, page
break or two, and a table .... now look at the reference to the bookmark!

My preference is to use DocumentProperties (File > Properties > Custom). A
little more work to set up, but the advantages are a) there's no danger of
them getting screwed up by your editing, and b) you can easily manipulate
them from an external application.

You can use a UserForm to write to bookmarks, which gets around some of the
bookmark issues. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm. And if you use
a UserForm to write data to the document Properties, you get the best of
both worlds.
