Links b/t 2 Excel files that both have been embedded in OneNote

I have been a long time user of OneNote (since the very first version) and
love it and cant live w/out it.

My issue: I have a large financial model stored in 2 Excel files. 1) a
file containing a number of data tables, and 2) a workbook that contains a
large amount of data analysis/reporting. The 1st file (just raw data tables)
represent external data ranges for the 2nd file. Said differently, a large
number of pivot tables and dashboards in the 2nd file use the 1st file as
their data source. These links b/t workbooks worked great when both files
were stored on a network shared location. (i have always kept raw data in a
diff file from analysis/rptg so that it is not all w/in 1 huge wbook and so
multiple users have access to the data tables, but only I have permissions to
the analysis/rptg wbook.) Very recently, I embedded both files into OneNote
(both on the same OneNote page). Now when i try to open either workbook, the
links between them have been broken. If i go to 'Data/Connections/Edit
Links' in excel, the links are 'unknown' and will not update. i have tried
to reestablish the link by just re-pointing it to the newly embedded data
file, but cant b/c i do not know a path or file name to point it to.

So my ultimate question: since these 2 files are embedded within the same
..one file (or, for that matter, even if they were in differnet .one files),
how do i reestablish the external data range links b/t these 2 embedded files?

these are 2 extremely critical files!! Any input w/be appreciated.
