I have to notebook computers I use for performing network admin work at
various client locales. The second notebook is just used as a backup system
in case the first notebook fails. I use a directory / file comparison utility
called Beyond Compare to synchronize data between these notebooks a few times
a day so that I'm always ready to switch to the backup notebook if the
primary fails. That backup notebook always has a nearly up-to-date copy of
all data on the primary.
It's easy enough to keep Outlook and OneNote synchronized between the two
systems. Links from one spot in OneNote to another spot in OneNote are
relative, and they work just fine. But when I create an Outlook task from a
OneNote entry the link back to OneNote that is created in that new Outlook
task references the MACHINE name in the link. This means, I suppose, that a
failure of the primary notebook will cause me to be using the backup
notebook, and the links from Outlook into OneNote on that notebook won't be
functional because they'll be referencing a location on the wrong machine.
Does anyone know what I could do to get around this issue? I'm doing my
dangedest to get OneNote and Outlook to work together as a sort of
hierarchical information manager, and these types of linkages are important
to that functionality.
